The head table entered the room to clapping with hands over head to the tune of YMCA played by our own Michael Pierson on piano. Ralph Lundberg provided a heartfelt invocation referring to recent natural disasters and referencing the fires in Fort McMurray.

Bill Gillot gave a very personal eulogy for Samuel 'Doug' Martin who passed away on April 25, 2016. He was a longtime member of Rotary International serving as District Govenor and longtime friend and member of our club. Doug will be remembered for organizing the largest (and best) Rotary Convention ever held. Bill stated without hesitation that our club is a better club today because of Doug Martin. At the end of Bill's tribute we had a moment of silence to reflect on a man who had given so much of his life to service above self.

President Rob then thanked our volunteers, Gord Cummings, Carmen Goss and John Seigner. President Rob announced that the funds members donate to Fort McMurray fire relief will be matched by the Ditrict 5370 Foundation Fire Relief Initiative who will be working closely with the clubs in the area to identify and respond to the mot beneficial projects.

Carmen Goss announced the birthday and guets. Bill Gillot offered Carmnen some of his words of wisdom "what we did yeterday may have seemed significant at the time but we don't know what they will bring" and Bill offered this humourous comment "80% of my body aches and 20% leaks". Carmen then suggested that we all take 5 minutes to go around our respective tables to chat about what we are doing in the world.

Everyone enjoyed the fellowship at their tables and were excited to hear from our own Helene Weir and her engaging talk on the YMCA in Calgary.
