2018 Summary (BBQ Analysis Committee)

1. To proceed with the 2018 plan Rotary Stampede Live Inc. (RSLI) will require $200,000 from the  Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown in up-front capital
o $100,000 by December 31, 2017
o $100,000 by March 31, 2018
2. With an RSLI target scenario the profit to RCC will be $75,000

Based on the current economic climate, “the risk” and the current cost structure with RSLI the RCC BBQ Analysis Committee recommends that the Club “NOT” proceed with the 2018 RCC Stampede BBQ.

Club Discussion

David Mears was thanked for presenting a challenging discussion and findings of the BBQ Analysis Committee that focused on an objective analysis of Financial and Economic considerations associated with the Stampede BBQ Club initiative.

There was substantive  dialogue around the joint venture with Rotary Stampede Live Inc. including questions of:
o Process (how this developed and member engagement in the decision making);
o Purpose of service club priorities (how does/does not /should or should not joint ventures be part of club purpose)
o Reputational Considerations for Rotary (prepare to identify and mitigate through a plan)

Next Steps

o President Bill Avery and President Elect Tim Heaton identified their intention to use this opportunity to step back and coordinate a holistic review of how RCC spends its money.
o Additional analysis needs to be done to assess the current Stampede market including direct competition events to inform 2017 results and advise 2018 decisions for Rotary Stampede BBQ.
o Further strategic discussion needs to take place about 2018 Stampede BBQ including recommendation to reduce to one event.
