Serendipity at Play

Several of our members attended the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne Australia from May 27 to 31. Of course when you travel that distance, it’s only natural to take in the sights of another country and have a few adventures. Aside from taking a train ride (4 days) from one side of the country to another (The Indian Pacific train), Kurt and Manon took a diving adventure to have a look at the Great Barrier Reef up close.
There were 34 divers on the boat ranging in ability from first time certification to rescue divers. Wouldn’t you know it, when we spoke to Ryan and Caroline, who were from Montreal, we discovered that Ryan is a Rotary Peace Scholar. He was also at the Convention representing Hanwash (https://www.hanwash.org/), which in collaboration with its many partners, are working with and supporting local stakeholders to deliver safe, affordable, and sustainable water and sanitation to everyone in Haiti. This national program formed out of a partnership between Rotary International District 7020 and DINEPA and based on the success of Haiti Outreach.
It is indeed a small world. You can look forward to hearing from Ryan as one of our Zoom speakers in the future and learn more about Rotary’s Peace Scholars program and other collaborative projects Rotarians are engaged in to make the world a better place.
