On Saturday March 24th, 26 Rotarians from our District attended the “Global Grants Workshop” at Rotary Challenger Park to discover and learn all about how to apply for Global Grants. The main workshop was delivered by our own Kurt Kowalchuk who is our District’s Global Grants representative.
We often talk about Rotary Math and are also greatly surprised by how much leverage we can get by applying to the District, the Province of Alberta (CIP), the Government of Canada through The Rotary Foundation of Canada. This workshop provided all the details for Rotarians to get funding for sustainable projects.
A Rotary Global Grant is the funding provided by The Rotary Foundation which is rated 4 stars by Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator is America's largest independent charity evaluator; it provides free ratings of the Financial Health and Accountability & Transparency of thousands of charities. At least half of the Rotarians in the workshop had never applied for a Global Grant before and they are all eager to jump through all the hoops (there are many!) to get the funding required for their projects.
This diverse group, which even included Rotaractor president Sara Kahn, had lots of questions and are now well prepared to move forward and submit projects that will no doubt be approved by TRF. The facilitation team also included Walter Haessle, Hank Popoff (Chinook) and Wally Gardiner (High River) and Manon Mitchell.
Thanks to the District for providing this great and unique learning opportunity for our Rotarians.
