The Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown has had a strong working relationship with CAWST (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology) for many years,  and considers this relationship to be one of our Signature Legacy Initiatives.

The Rotary Club of Calgary’s alliance with CAWST started in 2006 with a strategic partnership.  Since that time:
  • Over $540,000 has been donated by the Rotary Club of Calgary towards:
    • Establishing Water Expertise and Training (WET) Centres in eight countries,
    • Initiating projects in Uganda, Cambodia and Indonesia,
    • Provision of Water Quality Testing (WQT) kits, enabling CAWST to launch training on WQT.
  • The club was represented on the CAWST Board of Directors from 2004 to 2010.
  • CAWST has been introduced to the Rotary network world-wide.
As a results of these efforts:

•       1 million people are using better water or sanitation as a result of Rotarians and partners trained by CAWST,
•       8 WET Centres have reached over 2.2 million people with better water or sanitation.

Rotary’s work has directly contributed to the collective results of many.  In only 15 years:

•       15.4 million people are using better water or sanitation,
•       6.6 million people have been trained by other organizations using CAWST’s open content education and training resources,
•       5000 clients in 190 countries have registered for CAWST’s online services, downloading resources over 80,000 times.

The Rotary Club of Calgary, Downtown continues to work with CAWST and are looking forward to helping even more people around the world with clean water and sanitation in the future.
