Highlights of the June 5 Meeting

The members of the head table, led by club President Bill Avery, marched in to Michael Pierson and Manon Mitchell playing The Colonel Bogey March.

 

Following President Bill's call to order, Michael Pierson and Manon Mitchell led us in the singing of O Canada, and our President-Elect Nominee, Rick Erven, delivered the invocation.

 

President Bill thanked our front-entrance volunteers: Eric Bennett, Larry Martin and Bob Junker. This week's Greeter was Catherine Evamy.

 

Kurt Kowalchuk welcomed this week's visitors and guests, which included a Rotarian who visited us from Stuttgart, Germany.

Kurt Kowalchuk then returned to the podium to acknowledging the two club member birthdays this week: Eric Bennett and Ron Hymers.

 

President Bill also announced that the board passed a motion on May 17, 2018 to support the nominations of club members Paul Gagnon and Eva Friesen to the Board of the Calgary Rotary Clubs Foundation, as allowed by the Foundation's bylaws. In accordance with our club's bylaws, the membership will have the opportunity to ratify or reject these nominees on June 12, 2018.

 

Congratulations to Lorne Larson who won the Lobsterfest early bird draw. Lorne and three friends will enjoy a round of golf at the Silver Springs Golf & Country Club.

 

Manon Mitchell invited us to attend the Rising Start Concert with the Calgary Civic Symphony at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, which featured the winners of the 2018 Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition.
