What you missed on Tuesday Sept 12
Diane Macdonald

We had a great time on Tuesday September 12th at the club meeting. Here's what happened:
On September 12th, we had a rousing meeting at the Palliser – aided by George Brookman announcing the birthdays.  We heard about both Interact Club at Western Canada High School, and Rotaract at the University of Calgary from Charvi Shah. Charvi is the District Rotaract Committee representative as well as the Rotary International Rotaract Representative from our District.

A banner exchange was performed with a visiting Rotarian from Monterey, Mexico.

Our guest speaker was Jung-Suk (JS) Ryu, from the National Access Arts Centre (NaAC).  He spoke about the amazing programs in all forms of the arts, including dance and theatre, that are provided for special needs citizens of our community.  Manon introduced JS as her sister, Lynn Perreault, is a client of NaAC. Lynn has had 2 fabric art creations exhibited at the “Oasis” at the Calgary Stampede two years in a row.

In the video below, JS states that “we were shy about our artists and their work because we were partially afraid about what others might think of our artists and their creativity”.

This is exactly how Manon felt about her sister, keeping her hidden because of what other people might think about her. NaAC has changed all of that for Lynn and many others. It was a great opportunity for Lynn to show our members what she created.

If you haven’t attended an in-person meeting in a while, come on down to the Palliser on the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of the month.  We’ve missed you!
