Educating African Youth Committee
By Diane Macdonald and David Bromwich
The letter below came from one of the students supported by a project overseen by our Educating African Youth Committee. This project was initiated several years ago by the family of Curly Galbraith, one of our Club members, as a way to honour his life. The funds are used to provide post-secondary education to AIDS orphans and others living in poverty in Uganda – students chosen by a small group of Rotarians from three Clubs in Uganda working with the local schools.
The heartwarming letter below is from one of the current students in the program.
RE: Appreciation for supporting me in my studies
I am Kaitesi Viola a Ugandan female aged 21 years and currently studying at Rakai Community School of nursing and midwifery and am in year three and my final semester as well. I hereby submit in my appreciation for supporting me in my studies by paying for me tuition. For sure if it wasn't rotary l would not be were l am now, I am humbled for that.
During my study period that l started in July,2019 up to now, a global pandemic called COVID 19 came in 2020 which greatly affected my studies so much in that the course that would have been for 2yrs and a half had to expand up to 3yrs and a half because the schools were closed, and activities had to slow down which greatly affected the economy at home as well as the world at large. It also affected my plans of joining diploma for my further studies in 2023 and even tuition was increased. But since God always brings everything for a reason, during that time l was sitting home minus schooling, l gained a lot of experience from my senior nurses and also learnt that everything happens for a reason.
In a nutshell still want once again to thank Rotary Club of Kyotera, Mr. Mutajjululwa Joseph, Mr. Kayinga Jimmy plus all Rotarians that I am so thankful for the helping hand your have rendered to me since I started my studies. Words can't explain my happiness but may the good Lord reward you abundantly.
Your's faithfully,
Kaitesi Viola, Student Nurse
