Community Request for In Kind Donations Adult Literacy Committee Update

At their May 10th meeting, Rotary Community Services Directors received the following requests by the Ability Workshop Society.
#1- if any Rotarians own or operate warehouse space that they might make available to this organization.
#2- There is always a need for more volunteers especially with specific skills however, the skills are not a prerequisite.
#3- If any Rotarians who own and operate a business and have scrap materials as outlined in the document their help would be greatly appreciated.
The Ability Workshop Society is a volunteer organization committed to designing and building safe, economic, innovative solutions that promote independent living, healthy recreation, inclusive play and self-sufficiency for people with disabilities.
They have been helping disabled in the Calgary area for almost 30 years.
The shop is run entirely with approximately 40 volunteers and there is usually someone with the knowledge and experience to work with the client and develop a customized aid.
There is no government funding and donation are used to buy materials to aid in building the customized aid.
They work out of shop in Inglewood on 17th Ave SE, that is approximately 800 sq. ft.
In 2022 the shop received more requests than ever with over 120 requests and 87 projects completed.
During the next year they anticipate the building will be lost to the Green Line for SE corridor of C-train.
The wish is to move to a space that is approximately 2,000 sq. ft. centrally located as best as possible.
