Dr. Leslie C. Allan - Rotarian / Humanitarian and Calgary's Polio Vaccination Program

A Calgary City Park has been named after Dr. Leslie C. Allan. Who was he?

Our presenter, Ashley Proceviat, will speak about her father Dr. Leslie C. Allan  (pictured above) a long time member of the Rotary Club of Calgary (Downtown) and Calgary’s Assistant and Chief  Medical Officer of Health from 1950 - 1973. Dr. Allan was instrumental in organizing  the  polio vaccination program to inoculate Calgary children and adults in the late 50s and early 60s until Calgary became polio free.

Among the other health programs he championed were curtailing the burning of garbage to stop air pollution,  the dangers of smoking  causing cancer,  and the benefits of fluoridation of the city water supply to tackle tooth decay in children.
