The Rotary Club of Airdrie was started after a group of Airdrie members contacted Mr. Jack Hebert and Mr. Jack Alvis of the North Hill Rotary Club of Calgary on April 14, 1983, and officially chartered the Airdrie and District Rotary Club. The Charter Night meeting was held at the Town and Country Centre in Airdrie on Oct 28,1983. Subsequent club meetings were held at the Driftwood Inn (which is now the Best Western Regency Inn) in Airdrie, then at the Woodside Golf Course clubhouse in Airdrie, and finally at our present location in the Rotary Community Room at the Airdrie Recreation and Wellness Centre in Airdrie. The first president of the Airdrie Rotary Club was Mr. Brian McGraw, who was fundamental in establishing many of the traditions that our club has today. The club further grew and evolved under the leadership of Mr. Ed Eggerer, Mr. Hugh Hamilton, and Mr. Larry Kanters, who followed as presidents of the club during the early years. Many of the current projects and programs supported by our club were implemented under the leadership and vision of past-presidents Mr. Don Thomas and Mr. Rick Grass, and Mr. Darren Grierson. Airdrie Rotary Club is currently supporting many worthwhile community programs, including the Rotary Youth Enrichment Programme (RYPEN), the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program (RYLA), the Miss School Miss Out program, and the Youth Exchange program (Youth Exchange), among many others. Our club is also involved in many charity and fundraising activities, including our famous annual Lobster Boil Fundraiser which has been highly successfull since its inception in 1990. More information about these programs is available by clicking on the highlighted links above, or on our Charity/Fundraising activities page.
