Coach Lewis Sims is a 1990 graduate of Moss Point High School. He attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he was a two-year letterman in football for the Midshipmen.

the United States Naval Academy in
Annapolis, Maryland where he was a
two-year letterman in football for the
Midshipmen. Coach Sims earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science
from the University of Southern Mississippi
in 1996. That same year, he became an
assistant coach and English teacher at
Magnolia Junior High School, in Moss Point,
Mississippi. In 1997, he became head coach
of Magnolia’s football team and led them to
a two year record of 14-2.
After earning his masters degree in
Educational Leadership from William Carey
College, he left Moss Point to become
a member of Scott Sisson’s high school
football staff at East Central High School.
Coach Sims and his wife moved to New
York in June 2000 where he volunteered
as a linebacker and quarterback coach for
two years at Sewanhaka High School in
Floral Park, New York. In July of 2002, he
was hired as the defensive coordinator at
Lynbrook High School in Lynbrook, New
York. After two seasons, he and his wife
Amber moved home to the Mississippi Gulf
Coast and he returned to his alma mater as
a defensive assistant under the legendary
Jerry Alexander.
Upon Coach Alexander’s retirement,
Coach Sims was chosen as the new head
football coach and athletics director for
the Moss Point School District. He led
the Tigers to a record of 25-11 with three
playoff appearances, one region title, and
one South State appearance. In April 2011,
Coach Sims started a new phase in his
coaching career as the head coach of the
Pascagoula Panthers football team. In his
first season, he led the Panthers to their
first playoff birth in four years and earned a
playoff victory for the first time since 1995.
In 2012, the Panthers emerged as South
State Champions and played for a 5A State
Championship for the first time since 1987.
In 2013, the Panthers became Region 4-5A
Champions for the first time since 2003
with a 7-0 Region record.
During his first three years at the
helm, Coach Sims has led the Panthers
to a three year record of 30-9 for an
overall coaching record of 55-20 as a
head coach. Coach Sims was selected
as the Frank “Twig” Branch Coach of
the Year by the Mississippi Gulf Coast
Chapter of the National Football Hall of
Fame as well as the Sun Herald Coach of
the Year in 2012. He is the treasurer of
the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter of the
National Football Foundation and College
Football Hall of Fame. He is an active
member of the Mississippi Association of
Coaches, Mississippi Association of Athletic
Administrators, and First United Methodist
Church of Pascagoula. He has three
children, Mckinley, Mallory, and Austin.
