Meeting Minutes 6 August 2013

Be in that Number Celebration – Youth Mentoring Connection Launch Party is Saturday from 7-10.  We will require a couple more volunteers.  The event is being held at the Preservation Resource Center.

District Meeting on Foundation, Membership, and Public Relations is at the Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS on Saturday, August 18th from 8am-noon.

Monthly Board Meeting will be held on Sunday, August 18th, from 2:30-5:30.  Please RSVP to CJ.  We will meet at the New Orleans Marina.

West Africa Fair Project October 15-24.  See Handout from meeting.  The information is also under the Stories tab on our website.

We will be submitting 2 grants for the Readers 2 Leaders Project.  Jason put together the grants, and is willing to assist in any other grants club members are interested in applying for.  Please speak with him soon.  The deadline is August 15th.

White linen Night went super will.  The Ogden was very happy with our work, and re raised close to $500 in tips.

A family Fair is being held at the Ogden Museum on August 25th from 10-2.  The Ogden has asked for volunteers to help with crafts, baked goods, and lemonade.  The shifts are from 9:45-12 and 12-2:15.  Please see Carl to sign up.  There will be a social at the American Sector afterwards.

Carl is putting together a team for Super Saturday at City Park.  The event is from 9-12 in the morning, and will involve all types of ground maintenance.

CJ has the signup sheets for the Alligator Festival which is September 27-29. We will be taking the dollar for admission at the front gate.

Volunteers are needed at the Crescent City Café on October 19th.  The Crescent City Café is an organization that serves breakfast to the homeless and people of low income twice a month at Rayne Methodist Church.  The commitment is from 7-10am and you can choose to wait tables, host, bus, wash dishes, or work in the kitchen. 

We are trying to develop our club logo.  If you have any ideas or art skills please bring them forward.

As we move into August, we will be looking into an International Service Project.  Some options are

Guest Speakers

Robin Young with Rebuild together spoke about Rebuild’s mission of helping homeowners in our community to make necessary upgrades, renovations, and/or perform required maintenance on their homes.  Many homeowners in our city have either fallen on hard times or have had ability changing events in their life, but cannot afford or perform these projects on their own.  Robin encourages us to participate in the city wide Christmas in October build the first two weekends in October.

Matthew Powery was the Riverbend club’s RYLA recipient.  He finished the one week camp and spoke about all the wonderful experiences he had and all the friends, or family, as he put it, he made at the camp.
