THE LOW DOWN - WENDY KASUJJA
The Editorial Team of the Kampala South Rotary Times thinks Wendy is most fascinating person this week and would like to share their finding with you.
ET: WHO IS ROTARIAN WENDY?
WK: The good community work done by Rotarians is admirable and I wanted to be a part of it. So, when I got the opportunity to be invited for Fellowship at the Rotary Club of Kampala South, I was sold and have never looked back. I joined Rotary in November 2009 and have on two occasions held the position of Service Projects Director and done a stint as Public Relations Director.
ET: OUTSIDE ROTARY?
WK: I am a sister to three tall gentlemen and an aunt to a number of beautiful nieces and handsome nephews. My friends are special, interesting people, who make me laugh, put me in my place when I stray and generally make me a better person, something I try to reciprocate. Most of them describe me as energetic, confident and a sharp-shooter. Around them I can be myself, both the good and the bad.
ET: FUN & GAMES?
WK: I love going to places that allow me to be in touch with nature especially, wildlife and landscapes. I also love swimming, tennis, a bit of basketball (if my team is winning), nature photography, reading novels and singing in the bathroom. I will pass on an offer to have indoor pets especially cats but could try the parrot since we share a character trait.
ET: DOWN TO BUSINESS
WK: Like I said, the good community work done by Rotarians made me want to be a part of them. Bringing it closer to home, before I became a Rotarian, members from the Rotary Club of Mengo contributed to helping my mother access heart-surgery in India. That further strengthened my resolve to be a part of this wonderful family. I love it when I can be of help to someone and Rotary allows me to do that at a scale I wouldn’t have accomplished as an individual. The fun, fellowship, and life’s lessons top it all.
ET: WHAT IS YOUR HIGHER CALLING?
WK: When I wake up alive and well every morning, then I know, there’s a lot more I still have to offer the world. Some of my dreams are to fund an orphanage, be the best communicator in the region and travel the world.
ET: A WORD TO THE WISE
WK: “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way”!
ET: BOOKWORM
WK: I have read quite a number of books but some of my favorites are the trilogy about Lisabeth Salander (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) by by Stieg Larsson; David Baldacci’s Thrillers involving King and Maxwell; Tears of the Desert, a book about the happenings in Darfur by Halima Bashir & Damien Lewis; and Who Moved my Cheese, a book about handling change by Dr. Spencer Johnson.
ET: CRAZY BIN
WK: Hmm… that’s a bit difficult since I am usually a controlled person due to my amazing height. You know, while in High School, I used to stand at the back during assembly but, in case I was talking, the teacher at the front would always point me out and ask me to stop talking. I then realized that, it was easy to be identified in case I wanted to do something mischievous. Nonetheless, I wonder if this qualifies. I pierced my own ears with a sewing-pin just to spite my mother since she had advised me against the whole ear piercing idea for dermatological reasons. I still have crooked ear-holes to show for it!
