Prof. Wangari Maathai Public Lecture
Prof. Wangari Maathai's Memorial public lecture and grand fellowship.
This was held at Hotel Africana ( 17th May 2012), The function was organized by the Thursday Clubs and was graced with DG Eric Kimani, The Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, Hon. Betty Bigombe (State Minister for Water), Country Chair Margret, Philip Karugaba of MAKKS Advocates was the Key note speaker and our very own "Andy" Mr. DICKSON LANGOYA was among the Discussants.
Kampala South was well represented, with Rtn: Wendy ( she's really good at making up for the Mondays she's in K'jong land), was hoping Carol too bt alas:) , Michael Ojok soon to be PHF was present, PE JBL, Rita Tinka, Donnan Byabazaire, Jasmine Byuki helped with taking pic, you'll receive them shortly. And I of course represented.
The program started with tree planting at the Rotary Avenue at 3:00pm, then all club's assembled at Africana where Mr. Karugaba took us through the life of Prof. Wangari and explained that Uganda is loosing forests at a very terrifying rate; out of 506 forest reserves, only 12 are intact. He encourages Rotarians to plant more trees as part of their projects.
To sum it up, The Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese Islands, awarded club's that participated in the photo exhibition. RC Kiwatule was best, but no worries my team will make sure Kampala South is represented at the next.
Michael shared with us on mail earlier the first Wangari Maathai Award 2012 which is due in June, you might want to include that.
