We have come this far – Thank you!
The month of April is a reminder that the clock is ticking, and the end of the Rotary year is round the corner. Thanks everybody, in your various capacities, for the wonderful team work that has brought the club this far. We have definitely made big strides towards achieving the Kampala South dream – “To be recognized as a pre-eminent service organization in the country – effective, vibrant, dynamic and fun to belong to.”
As I reflect back on some of the milestones we have achieved in the past three quarters, I thank God for His Divine intervention. The revival of the buddy groups and the enthusiasm of the buddies in ensuring that they make fellowship something to look forward to; the progress made in the construction of the Kikandwa Health Centre; the successful closure of the Nganjo-Ddundu-Dewe Adopt-A-Village Project; the launch of the South Independence Cruise; the career awareness day and the efforts put into nurturing our baby clubs; the wonderful hospitalities and vocational tours we enjoyed courtesy of our own, namely, Ebert’s birthday in Bugolobi and drink up at the Cwezi Condos in Buziga, IPP Jane’s Gulu country home and the tour of the wonderful tree planting project, the club retreat at Aggrey’s Comfort Inn, and Fred’s Soso Courts in Mukono; celebrating PP Susan’s joining the major donor ranks; and the new members that joined us and are making a difference in the club.
No doubt, the club is moving closer to its dream and I appeal to each one of us to continue with the same team spirit as we slowly, but surely overcome the hurdles that stand in the way of our club’s progress.
In the coming months, we need to remind ourselves of our commitments and obligations as Rotarians, “to serve above self” and that includes digging deeper into our pockets to find that extra penny that will forever change the lives of those that are not as fortunate as ourselves. The $100 towards TRF annually remains a challenge for us. We also shouldn’t tire from seeking international partnerships that will support us in our future projects and currently, in reviving our two RCCs – Nyacoonga and Jjanyi if we are to transform them into the model communities we would like to see. Our commitment to club projects also remains a challenge. And, of course, to remember to always pay our dues on time and meet our respective obligations as club members. It is unfortunate that each year, we have to lose some of our members for such reasons, which in a way takes the club one step backward.
