Singing and dancing to save little hearts

This involves providing heart surgery for children with congenital heart disease - children who would otherwise die; and using this as a vehicle for building the capacity of the local surgical teams at the Institute – capacity that benefits the entire population.

This year’s theme was:  "Dance to Save a Child's Life" 

The competition took place at Theatre La Bonita, Kampala and approximately fifteen Rotary clubs and ten Rotaract clubs participated through: staging items, buying tickets and sponsoring the event through donations. The event also attracted family members and friends of Rotary.

The scoring and prizes were presented to clubs against the quality of the presentation, time management, creativity of the attire, and number of participants. They included: Most creative attire – Ushs 200,000;  largest number of participants    – Ushs 200,000; best karaoke entry – Ushs 200,000; best dance entry - Ushs   200,000 for a Rotaract and Rotary club; and best club overall – Ushs 400,000/= for a Rotary and Rotaract club.

Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese emerged overall winner in among the Rotary clubs after winning both the singing and dance, while the Rotaract Club of Uganda  Institute of Communication Technology (UICT) emerged winner among the Rotaract clubs.

And the Rotary Club of Kasangati went home with the prize for most creative attire – created out of drinking straws.

The Rotary Club of Kampala South made an attempt at staging the 80s “We are the Chosen Few” by the Dooleys for the singing entry, and Imagination’s “Illusion” for the dance entry. They impressed the audience with their funky wigs and stylish shades characteristic of the 80s.

The dance team included: President Esther Mwambu, IPP Jane Langoya, PP Jackie Nansubuga, PP Don Byabazaire and Rtns Jennifer Byokusheka, Lilliane Iculet and Daniel Bogere.

Like the saying goes, “Never Give up!” there is still another chance to win while we save little hearts, come 2014.
