ROTARY PRESIDENT'S DINNER 2012
The long awaited & much anticipated visit by the Rotary International President finally came to pass. President Sakuji Tanaka was warmly welcomed into the Pearl of Africa on the 1-2 August. He toured various Rotary Projects but the highlight was his opening the Construction of the Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital.
In true Ugandan Style, we made good on the proverb...all work and no play makes Rotary President a dull man. He was treated to a sumptuous dinner in his honour at the Serena Hotel. Of course our dear club was well represented by the usual suspect, Pres. Jane, IPP Jackie, PE Esther, Ebert, Aggrey, Joseph, Irene, PK, Angela, Patrick, Parity, PP Susan, Lillian Iculet, David, Mike Ojok and Oscar all dressed to the nines in couture and suits that Armani would envy!!! See the evidence/ E-Make up cards in our photo albums on the Club website. All in all the Rotarians attendance was about 350 including clubs from Gulu.
The organizing Committe did an excellent job as the function went flawlessly. Entertainment (which Pres. Jane was in charge of) was superb. We had rotaractors burst some moves on stage and the all Rotarian Band who included Alan Shonubi, our very own Oscar, Solomon Rubondo and others also did not disappoint. The food was superb and went down well with Michael Ouma serenading the guests.
Down to business, Rotarians once again displayed that sharing is caring. The Rotary Foundation fundraising raised an astounding USD 435,000!! Viva la Rotary!!! Kampala South pledged to raise USD 15,000 this year.
We congratulate our members who were recognised as PHFs and promptly given their stones (read sapphires). Susan (4), Richard (3), Pres Jane (2) and Joseph (2). Well done mates!!!
The spirit of Rotary is clearly still alive and burning in the club. So let us make good our pledge to TRF as we promote peace through service.
Cheers
David
