Fellowship with Mengo

I attended fellowship at Mengo on July 30, 2012. The fellowship was graced by the Country Chair, PHF Robert Nsibirwa who discussed the them of this year's RI theme Peace Through Service.
He gave a good detailed background of how RI President Tanaka came up with the theme. He took us back in the history of Japan, the recent earthquake that shook that country etc. He asserted that it was through pursuing the peace route that Japan is currently the third largest economy in the world.
He clearly stated that peace is not just the absence of war. He gave various examples to emphasize the point that peace can be established in communities if we endeavor to stamp out poverty, provide essential services etc. He also said that there many people with plenty that have no peace within themselves. The Assistant Governor, CP Jones was in attendance too.
In the same fellowship, Rtn Rose Kisitu gave a great report about interact. The club has sponsors many Interact clubs among which is SLAU (St Lawrence Univ). The club has a membership of over 200 members with an interesting structure.the club structure is composed of a central president that sits at the Kabaka's lake campus and other campus (sub) presidents reporting to the central president! She said that the club is faced with the same weaknesses suffered by other interact clubs including not displaying a good Rotary image such as dressing, speaking while chewing gum etc. The club also doesn't have regular fellowship times - fellowships are held as and when!
Mengo has an interesting culture of encouraging 100% attendance by 'ambassadors' from other clubs such as Bweyogerere, Kampala North, Kampala, Rubaga, Kampala Central (understandably) etc. One wonders if the club reciprocates the ambassadorship though
