Fellowship at Kampala Central

Colleagues, Noah and I visited the RC Kampala Central fellowship on Augsut 1, 2012. The club hosted IPCC Margaret Mungherera who gave a very good talk about membership. She emphasized the elements of a good Rotarian. She also asserted that clubs shouldn’t invest a lot of energy in trying to ‘resuscitate’ Rotarians who have chosen to leave the club but rather focus on retention and recruitment (with proper mentorship programs).

She also discussed the need for clubs to come up with score sheets (attendance, payment of dues, project visits, home hospitality participation etc). She also reminded us of a Membership Satisfaction Form (available on the website). Rtn Margaret also underscored the urgent need for presidents to give an opportunity for members to leave the clubs rather than stick to them like leeches. As a president you avail this opportunity by deleting their names from the club list.

This year the RC of Kampala Central is rebranding itself as the Green Club! President Christine (a staunch environmentalist) is not sparing a chance to demonstrate this. The club handed over a pack of tree seedlings (along with a certificate) to the guest speaker. That wasn’t all – all Rotary Clubs in attendance were asked to carry away a pack of the same seedlings for the Interact Clubs. Yours truly picked a pack for our budding Bishop Mazzolidi. We should all support our interact club and let us all attend the handover (when President Jane calls on us) and plant trees.
