Don’t look for big things, just do small things with great love…the smaller the thing, the greater must be our love. Mother Teresa
On Saturday 20th November, the Rotaract club of Kampala South held the sixth phase of the Nyakijumba project. The club has been supporting Nyakijumba Primary School for the past years and this year they still extended the support. The club partnered with the World of Rotaract to carry out a reading session with the children.
Some of the stories told were folk stories from New Zealand and Uganda. Through this partnership, the school also received book donations from the Rotaract Club of Ocenia. Works are ongoing on the construction of the classroom block and currently at the ring beam phase. The club conducted a skilling training for the community where they learnt how to make reusable sanitary towels, making crisps and doughnuts and liquid soap.
As a way of observing one of the rotary areas of focus, the club planted 1000 trees at Kigezi High Primary School. This was done in partnership with Kabale Municipal Council.
The club also donated skin care products such as lotion, jelly, soap, sanitizer and other items courtesy of Movit products.
A medical camp was also conducted to treat some common ailments and reproductive health products such as condoms were distributed. A legal aid clinic was also conducted to sensitize the people in the community about their rights and how they can handle certain challenges related to land, domestic violence and others.
Over the years the club has been working with Grace Villa orphanage and this year we distributed sanitary pads to the girls in partnership with AfriPads.
