World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of the kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. It is celebrated annually on the second Thursday in March. The campaign is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF).

Objectives of World Kidney Day:

  1. Raise Awareness: Increase understanding about the importance of kidney health and the role kidneys play in overall health.

  2. Prevention: Promote preventive behaviors to reduce the risk of kidney disease.

  3. Early Detection: Encourage early detection and management of kidney disease.

  4. Access to Treatment: Advocate for equitable access to healthcare and treatment for kidney disease.

  5. Education: Educate healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public about kidney health.
