RCMC members learned about Germans in Singapore

Lunch meeting on 22 September at the Goodwood Park Hotel was well attended and enjoyed by Rotarians and guests.

President Mary and President Elect Ambaree both shared upcoming events and encouraged club participation. Key events include

  • 15 September - installation party
  • 10 October - Movie night
  • 19 November 2022 - Veg this city
  • 23 November 2022 - Tree planting
  • 15 April 2023 - Rotary Climate Change

The club meeting was held at the Goodwood Park Hotel, formerly the Teutonia Club, commissioned by the German community. The Teutonia Club was built in 1900 and was modeled after the castles on the Rhine in Germany.

With this setting for the RCMC meeting, Sabine Hein introduced her new book, DeutscheGermansinSingapur.  Her book shares 200 years of stories of Germans in Singapore. The bilingual book chronicles the economic, political, and cultural relations between Germany and Singapore. The book helps the reader understand role of Germans in Singapore through their interrelationships with Singapore, in mutual exchange.

PP Heinrich noted a few pages and fined himself as he was mentioned on two pages in the book. The book is SGD69.90 and Sabine will bring copies to the next meeting and will sign.
