Mangrove Restoration & Education Project — Pasir Ris

RCMC members and Interactors from Dunman Secondary truly embodied the Rotary motto of People of Action. With sleeves rolled up and boots on, members came together to plant young mangrove trees at Pasir Ris Park as part of the Mangrove Restoration and Education Project.
President Edward shared his excitement in leading the club’s second mangrove tree planting at the park. The event was graced by Guest of Honour Senior Minister of State Desmond Tan, Special Guest AG Jimmy Cheong, and members of the Rotary Club of Dusit led by President Thammasak.
PP Ambaree, District Chair for Environment and Sustainability, championed this groundbreaking global grant project—our district’s first-ever environmental global grant. During her welcome address, she highlighted the rigorous process behind securing the grant and praised NParks for providing the detailed data needed to make it possible.
During the planting kickoff, Ambaree shared why mangroves are vital:
🌿 Ecosystem Restoration: Mangroves create rich habitats for marine life, support biodiversity, and nourish offshore reefs.
🏝️ Coastal Protection: They stabilize shorelines, shield communities from storm surges, and reduce erosion.
🌍 Climate Change Mitigation: Mangrove forests store large amounts of carbon and new growth helps remove carbon from the atmosphere.
💧 Improved Water Quality: Mangroves naturally filter water and can help reduce ocean acidification.
A meaningful morning dedicated to protecting our coasts, restoring ecosystems, and building a more sustainable future. 💚
