Covid, a sudden worldwide outbreak that occurred and disrupted the lives of many.  Many have fell ill and passed on, some are still suffering and trying to pull through this sickness while others are remaining safe, avoiding this illness. In Singapore, Covid has impacted people’s jobs, their daily routine, and their mental health.

Before the rise of Covid, as rotaractors, we could plan and execute events to serve the community, attend events to expand our network in Singapore and overseas and improve our professional development skills through workshops.

However, with this worldwide outbreak, some countries have shut down or has imposed a travel ban like Singapore which does not allow us to travel to other countries and there is cancellation for Rotaract events. Also, in Singapore, there are other restrictions, like not having physical events, and only meeting with 5 people etc, this has affected us in running events, as well as meeting with our own members for regular meetings. Face-to-face communication is lost in the midst of this outbreak.

However, with technology rising every day, most Rotaract events and meetings have been moved digitally through cloud-based video conferencing services such as Zoom and Skype. This has allowed us to not lose touch with the people we have created connections with and with people being encouraged to work from home, or school being home-based, it has been easier to hold meetings to meet everyone’s availability and there has also been an increase in numbers of attendees at events.

This outbreak has affected rotaractors, but it has also helped shine a light with some aspects such as improving our club’s bond and the bond with our Rotarians to bring us closer as a family that is one of our club’s goals to achieve this RY2020/2021.
