The Juneau Glacier Valley Rotary Club invites you to be a part of the final phase and vision for the Riverside Rotary Park September 11th Memorial.

We are proud to state that this memorial, dedicated in 2002, was the first 9/11 memorial in the nation to commemorate the victims of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the downed aircraft over Pennsylvania. It is also to acknowledge the efforts of the rescue and recovery at each of the sites and the continued fight to preserve our freedom.

On September 11, 2005, the Juneau community dedicated the brick plaza surrounding the memorial. The plaza is filled with engraved bricks that pay tribute to family members, businesses or loved ones who have served or who are now serving in the military, police or fire department. While the memorial is in honor of the tragic events of the day, including those lives lost and the bravery of the first responders - the bricks are not limited to this, they can be dedicated to anyone.

You can be a part of ”Our promise to never forget”, by purchasing a brick. Our final phase includes a small wall to encircle and embrace the memorial and an interpretive sign explaining the history of this memorial. Your brick can be engraved with your name, family member's names, your business name or a message of tribute or honor and placed as a permanent part of the memorial plaza.

The deadline for brick orders is June 15, 2021 to have your brick included in this year’s 9/11 event.

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on September 11, 2021 whether on-line or, if COVID conditions permit at the park as we dedicate the completed memorial and commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Details to follow. This is a solemn occasion and a meaningful way to never forget.

The design of the memorial is a broken pentagon, representing the Pentagon Building, each side measures 4 feet in length, representing the four lost airplanes. The two missing sides represent the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. The memorial is constructed with concrete and Pennsylvanian marble to represent the strength found in our heroes. The Forget-Me-Not flowers symbolize the rebirth of patriotism and our promise never to forget. The flag represents the unity of our nation. The head of the memorial’s pentagon is aligned with the North Star, a symbol of all Alaskans.
