Ellen Finn is manager of the organization, and she reports that they are “just building a
tiny clinic in the village of El Rancho. Two rooms, but better than giving birth on the road
or in tin houses.”
Buenos Vecinos has now finished building 6 clinics, 25 schools and about 18
emergency houses for families living in tents. According to Ellen, “We are now
increasing their tree planting program... 60 kids a month planting hundreds of trees
monthly, in exchange for school supplies. We are also working with families who can no
longer afford to buy food due to the sharp inflation here. We are giving them seeds and
training to start their own vegetable gardens and giving out a fruit tree to everyone who
owns their own land.”
“Also much more: Medical emergencies, clothing and food banks, nutrition and hygiene
workshops, water filters.”
This is Ellen’s 16th year working and living in Central America. We have supported her
group several times in the last few years, and we can acknowledge that donations go
straight to the people in need in Guatemala and Honduras.
Our participation in this project has been funded by the Orange Rotary Charitable Fund,
thanks to the donations of the residents of Orangevale and neighboring communities
over the past several years.
