The Covington Rotary Club was chartered on February 17, 1927 by the Rotary Club of Hammond.  It was the 14th club established in what is now District 6840.  At the time, Rotary International was only 25 years old.

According to Rotary International and club archives, the first officers of the Covington Rotary Club were:

Paul Winchester, President
Alfred Smith, Vice-President
R.H. Dutch, Secretary
John Warner, Treasurer
Raymond Ward, Sergeant-At-Arms

The classifications of the original 25 members were: Oil, Feed & Grain; Banking; Manufacture; Utilities; Doctor (2); Auto Dealer; Dentist (2); Funeral Director; Lumber; Publisher; Hardware; Retail; Banking; Investments; Grocery; Contractor; Attorney; Drug Store; Real Estate; Furniture; Dry Goods; Insurance.

Many of Covington's leading citizens, professionals, philanthropists leaders have been members of the Covington Rotary Club over the course of its 85 year history.
