38 members and guests joined us last Friday for our Zoom meeting.  Among the guests were Angie Rush’s in-laws Wayne and Judy Rush as well as Jody Olsen, Jane Pallister, Roshandra Jett and, from Anchorage East Rotary, Michael Archer.  We were pleased to see missing member Lynn Johnson was with us.

President Art Clark presided.  Dodie Pruessner led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Following the Pledge President Art suggested that in our future Zoom meetings all those, other than the person leading the pledge, mute their microphone.  Delays in the audio make it distracting otherwise.  Art then offered the Thought-for-the-day: I am merely a visitor here.  This planet and these people, and the circumstances that surround my existence are meant to help teach me understanding, compassion, empathy and love.

There were several comments and congratulations for Leverette Hoover’s recognition as a University of Alaska Anchorage Alumni of Distinction.  We also learned that Leverette was planning on using a off screen cue card shuffler for his speech.  Wind made the cards unreadable, so Hoover had to rely on memory for his remarks.

In Happy Bucks Helena Wisniewski is organizing a competition for the best business plan within the community.  It will be judged by academics and finance folks and be a opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to gain feedback and experience. She pledged $5 as did Angie Rush for the company of her in-laws.  Rick Goodfellow had $5 as a wish for a good turnout Saturday for the Wisconsin Road clean-up.  Nelson Defendorf is having carpel tunnel surgery soon. He must be pretty confident in his surgeon as he only offered $1.  He had it some years ago to preserve his ability top grip the handlebars of a snow machine.  This time it is to maintain his ability to shoot!  Denise Runge had $5 for Leverette’s award. Bruce Erickson pledged $10 in excitement for the selection of Anchorage as a future site for the United States Golf Association event.  The event has already prompted changes to our golf course.  They removed a hill from the course in the past week.
