The Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise (formerly Larkspur Landing) is THE FIRST Rotary Club to have women as Charter Members

The Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise, California (formerly Larkspur Landing), is chartered on 28 May, 1987. It becomes the first club after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling to have women as charter members. (Read the History of Women in Rotary Below.)

The 1989 Council on Legislation vote to admit women into Rotary clubs worldwide remains a watershed moment in the history of Rotary.

"My fellow delegates, I would like to remind you that the world of 1989 is very different to the world of 1905. I sincerely believe that Rotary has to adapt itself to a changing world," said Frank J. Devlyn, who would go on to become RI president in 2000-01.
The vote followed the decades-long efforts of men and women from all over the Rotary world to allow for the admission of women into Rotary clubs, and several close votes at previous Council meetings.

The response to the decision was overwhelming: By 1990, the number of female Rotarians had skyrocketed to over 20,000.

Twenty years after the Council on Legislation's vote, Rotary has nearly 188,000 female Rotarians. Women have served in leadership positions as high as the RI Board of Directors and The Rotary Foundation Board of Trustees. REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL INTERACT CLUB

As the Sponsor of the Redwood High School Interact Club, We have had the privilege of working directly with Youths in the community and guiding them while they participate in service projects and weekly meetings.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.

Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of

  • Developing leadership skills and personal integrity
  • Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others
  • Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work
  • Advancing international understanding and goodwill

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost 200,000 young people are involved in Interact.

The Mission to Make a Difference.

The Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise has been partnering with the Marin Century bike ride to help returning veterans who suffer from PTSD, or "the battle after the war".

The Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise’s bike ride, "Ride4Vets", provides support to injured veterans, especially those who have sustained the "hidden" injuries of war — so they may thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and economically.

These “hidden” injuries of war have often been difficult to treat. There is a non-profit organizations here in Northern California that are treating PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and other causes of military suicides.

Showing that we care means everything.
