Campbell Scott
What can you do? Climate and you

Campbell is a retired research scientist, climate advocate, and Climate Reality leader. He was trained in July 2020 via Zoom by Former Vice President Al Gore and his team at Climate Reality Project (CRP). He is a member of Silicon Valley Chapter of CRP where he is co-chair the Speakers’ Bureau with the role of presenting the science of climate change, its impact and solutions to community groups in the area and beyond. Campbell received his BSc in physics from St. Andrews University in Scotland and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He taught physics at Cornell University before joining the IBM San Jose Research Laboratory (now IBM Research, Almaden). During his career at IBM, he was a member and/or manager of R&D groups studying material and devices for use in both information and energy technologies. The latter required studying climate science as motivation for research in solar cells and batteries within a traditional IT company. In addition to experimental testing and evaluation, he developed simulation methods to predict device performance and to optimize processing conditions in manufacture. He retired from IBM in July 2020, after nearly 40 years. Dr. Scott has published more than 170 scientific papers and holds over 20 patents. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
