Heritage Festival Charities Recognized
Slidell Heritage Festival charities were recognized and presented checks at the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Slidell Northshore on August 27th, 2013. A total of $40,000 was distributed to charity. The six designated charities for 2013 were: Boy Scouts Troop 346, Slidell Youth Soccer Club, Slidell Ladies for Liberty, Good Sam's Ministry,Gulf South Leadership Institute and the Slidell Police Association. Ken Thompson made the presentations.

RCSN ShelterBox Deployed to Congo
The ShelterBox sponsored by the Rotary club was deployed to the Republic of the Congo in March, 2012 - the 178th deployment in ShelterBox's history. 654 boxes were deployed to the Congo, providing shelter for that many families. The disaster was the result of a military arsenal explosion that injured thousands and obliterated entire neighborhoods.
The ShelterBox sponsored by Ken Thompson was deployed to Ethiopia in August, 2011 - SB's 159th deployment. 1,516 boxes were deployed to Ethiopia along with 12 school boxes. Similar deployments were made to Kenya as the result of a drought that has displaced 400,000 in the Horn of Africa. |
