On Friday, July 10th, 2026, our club hosted Aging Matters at The Alexandria San Carlos, a full day of expert guidance on aging: geriatric medicine from Stanford's Dr. Mehrdad Ayati, Alzheimer's support from Claire Day, plus sessions on financial planning, cognitive health, and home safety. The resource fair turned the room into real, useful conversations for families navigating aging. The event's success owed a great deal to Patricia Maxwell and Shivdeep Kapoor, whose efforts helped bring it all together.

Aging Matters: A Full Day, A Full Room
On July 10th, the Rotary Club of Belmont & Redwood Shores hosted Aging Matters at The Alexandria San Carlos, an eight-hour event built around a simple idea: the people navigating aging, whether for themselves or a parent or a spouse, deserve real answers from real experts in one place, instead of piecing it together alone over months of Googling at midnight.
The lineup reflected that ambition. Dr. Mehrdad Ayati, Stanford Medical Director, spoke on geriatric medicine. Claire Day represented the Alzheimer's Association. Health and aging futurist Ki Siadatan, financial planner Lars Larson, and specialists from the Hummingbird Project and Rock Steady Boxing rounded out a day that covered everything from cognitive health and home safety to long-term care and financial planning for the road ahead. Lunch was provided, registration filled up, and the resource fair turned the room into something closer to a marketplace of trusted local help than a typical conference hallway.

Patricia Player Maxwell is the driving force behind Aging Matters. A Geriatric Care Manager and Founder and Owner of Maxwell Senior Care Services, she has spent years building resources for older adults across the Peninsula, including as a founding member of the San Mateo Senior Roundtable, founder of the Foster City Village, and founder and chair of the Foster City Rotary Senior Meals Program. Aging Matters would not have come together without her.
Speaker Spotlight
Ki Siadatin spoke on AI's role in what he calls the "new longevity" era, where AI, wearables, smart homes, precision medicine, brain science, and robotics can help people live longer, healthier, and more independent lives, but only when these tools support clinicians and caregivers rather than replace human judgment.
