Originally called Decoration Day, from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. It was first widely observed on May 30th, 1868 to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of Gen. John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former Union sailors and soldiers.

Rocklin Police Department
This week's speaker is Chief Rustin Banks of the Rocklin Police Department. He will share updates and the department's activities that align with its mission to serve, protect, and promote a safe community. I am sure there will be some discussions on e-bikes.

State of the City
Last week's speaker was City of Rocklin Vice Mayor Bill Halden. Bill is a long-time dedicated Rotarian and member of our club. He presented the unofficial State of the City, produced by Bill, in which he reviewed the municipality’s achievements and improvements, current challenges, and the upcoming policy agenda.

Brewfest

Did someone say Brewfest?

Our big FUNdraiser for the year, Brewfest, is just two weeks away. We all should be getting the word out, placing signs and fliers, and, most importantly, selling tickets. This is the event that funds all the great work we do serving the community and beyond throughout the year. Let's make it the best Brewfest yet.

Did you know… This event takes the coordination and support of 100+ people. Calling all Volunteers, be sure to sign up to help for this great event.

To learn more, our Wednesday lunch meeting on June 3rd will be an overview of the event. A great educational opportunity for new members to learn about the event, what is new this year, and how they can support it.

Some pictures from last year's event.

Reminder… Calling all donations… Last chance for a great opportunity to support your community. Need your donations this week.

We have a silent auction that is put on by Pacific Auction Company. They bring many fantastic items, and we receive a portion of the proceeds. What is even more exciting is that when we donate items through our club, we get most of the proceeds, which is great for raising funds for our many service projects throughout the year. If you have some great items to donate, from gift cards to physical items, that are or, in combination with other donations, add up to a value of $100 or more, reach out to Aaron (me, your editor) to coordinate. For example, we can package four $25 gift cards into a single auction item, even with the cards coming from different companies. So there is no excuse not to donate. And if you can't, but know someone or a business that can, let me know.
