NICU Kids Helping Kids

This week's speaker is Ellie Taylor, Director of Outreach for the Neonatal Development subunit of Kids Helping Kids Sacramento. She will share about the subunit of Kids Helping Kids, made up of nine students, including her, at Del Campo High School, which aims to aid infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit who are at a high risk of lacking sensory development skills.

Rocklin Adult Transition Program

We had a change up on last week's speaker. Some of the students from the Rocklin Adult Transition Program shared about the stove we purchased in conjunction with the Lincoln Club, featured below.

A little bit about the Adult Transition Program

The program has been designed to support students ages 18-22 years of age. The term transition services means a coordinated set of activities that are designed to improve the academic and functional achievement of a student with a disability and facilitate the student's movement from school to post-secondary education, vocational education, employment, continuing and adult services, independent living, and community participation. The Adult Transition Program will prepare students with disabilities for meaningful employment and independent living. Students learn functional English and math, current events, independent living skills, job skills, cooking and nutrition/health, community safety, self-advocacy, and mobility skills.

The Request:

The ATP had a stove in their classroom, which they used to learn and practice life skills. The class has an ongoing project where they make “dog cookies” and sell them to local veterinarians to raise funds to support class activities and class field trips. The stove in the classroom was in desperate need of replacement.

Also, last week, we discussed the Rocklin Firefighters' request for support on the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The Club is interested in supporting this year's Rocklin Firefighters Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 20.

We need around four people to run the snack booth and another four to help set up the event. Bill Haldin has offered to lead the team. Please contact him if you have any questions or would like to sign up.
