New Beer's Eve is celebrated annually on April 6, marking the night before the Cullen-Harrison Act went into effect on April 7, 1933. This act, signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, legalized the sale of 3.2% alcohol-by-volume beer, marking the first major step toward the end of Prohibition.
This week's speaker is Karla Knight, of Blue Star Moms, a non-profit organization founded in 1942 to support mothers of children in the U.S. Armed Forces. They provide emotional support, send care packages to deployed troops, and assist veterans and families. Membership includes mothers, stepmothers, and grandmothers of service members or veterans.
CASA
Last week's speaker was Katja Pollmann, Community Engagement Director, and supported by Julia Boal, Special Event Manager of Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA). Katja shared about their mission to support and empower foster children, at-risk youth, and families in crisis by connecting them with compassionate volunteer advocates who provide hope, guidance, and a pathway to stability and lasting permanency.
Activities Last Week Some of our club members were out and about supporting a great fundraiser for Blue Star Moms at Cattleman's. We had a sneak peek from Karla Knight at our meeting the week before last, and she is back this week to share more about this great organization.

Adopt a Creek Program, April 25th from 8:00 am – 11:00 am (or earlier, depending on how quickly we wrap things up)
We’ll focus our efforts within the Twin Oaks Park boundary, where a little Rotary TLC will go a long way. With Little League in full swing (pun fully intended), the park perimeter and parking areas could use some attention. Much of the trash that ends up in the open space actually starts here and gets blown there, so we’ll be stopping it at the source. See the event calendar for more details.
