The background of electric lights used for Christmas decorations can be followed back to the late 1800s when lights were first strung together by a man named Edward H. Johnson. A partner and friend of Thomas Edison, Mr. Johnson handwired some lights together to combat the safety issues that were often encountered when people would use open-flamed candles to light their Christmas trees.

Happy Thanksgiving
In observance of the holiday, we did not have a meeting last week.

We all hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and were able to spend time with family and friends.

Also, a reminder to fellow Rotarians: our Club Holiday Party is approaching, so please don't forget to respond to the RSVP.

Christmas Tree Lighting
Reminder, the annual tree lighting is less than a week away.

We will have our booth there serving chili to keep the crowd warm, and providing an opportunity for our club and the Interact clubs to share our "Rotary Why" and all the good work Rotary does serving the community. To sign up and help, please contact Chris.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 6, at Quarry Park from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. There will be a Holiday Market, food trucks, and kids' activities. Santa will be there and the tree lighting. It is a great family fun event.

Let’s Make a Difference Together
There is still time to make a difference and donate to the Diaper & Sock drives. Let's come together and make a bigger donation this year.

Our 2025 South Placer Rotary Club Diaper & Sock Drive 🧦🍼 through Saturday, December 6
Help us make a BIG impact for students/families this holiday season!
Your donations will directly support the Sierra College Basic Needs Center and students with young children, as well as families served by local community organizations.

Our Annual Christmas Basket Program is in full swing, and Shelly is leading the charge like Santa on espresso! She’s already secured 10 families with 21 children (and counting!) who we’ll be supporting this holiday season. Shopping is nearly wrapped up—Bruce and Chris are teaming up with Toys for Tots to make sure every kiddo gets something magical.

Important Note: The Gift Packing event has moved to the 16th.

We need six cheerful elves to help with Packaging NightTuesday, December 16th, 6:00 PM
Damian’s office – 6556 Lonetree Blvd, Ste 100, Rocklin

Speaking of Toys for Tots, they can use our help, and it is another great opportunity to support our community.

Toys for Tots needs help with setting up their warehouse, collecting toys from donation sites, assembling bikes, organizing toys, and distributing them. Their biggest needs are:

December 1 - 5, 10 am - 4 pm for Warehouse setup
December 8 - 12, 10 am - 4 pm for toy organization and assembly
December 14, 15, 16, 10 am - 4 pm, toy distribution.

Additionally, they need people with pickups, SUVs, or vans to pick up toys from drop-off sites.
