Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

FAWN

This week's speaker is Roger Smith, co-founder of Friends Aiding Wildlife in Nature (FAWN), with his wife Irene. He will share their mission to educate property owners, government agencies, and the public about fencing hazards and “wildlife-friendly” solutions where fencing is needed. Their hope is to raise awareness of this under-recognized problem and to make a difference by promoting the importance of mobility for our native wildlife.

Stanford Sierra Youth & Families
Last week's speaker was Dr. Laura Heintz, the Chief Executive Officer, and Erin Stone, the Executive Director of Philanthropy and Communications, at Stanford Sierra Youth & Families. Stanford Sierra Youth & Families provides a continuum of care to empower youth and families to overcome challenges together, and connects youth in foster care to the permanent, loving families they need and deserve. They are transforming lives by nurturing permanent connections and empowering families to solve challenges together, so every young person can thrive.

Member Socials

Don't have FOMO, be there: We have some great club socials coming up this Rotary year to build community and connection among club members and their partners. These events help build support for our service projects by giving club members an opportunity to get to know each other better and their partners to learn more about the club.

Finally, here this Tuesday:

  • Fun, Fellowship & A Great Night of Baseball; Tuesday, September 8th; first pitch 6:40PM

Save the date for some upcoming socials:

  • An Afternoon of Fine Wine, Fellowship, & Fun; Saturday October 24th 12:30 to 4:00 PM
  • Night of Creativity, Fun & Fellowship, Painting Party; Wedensday, Februrary 11th, 6PM

Keep an eye out for more details on these and other social events. A big thank you to Laura & Steve for coordinating.
