National Nonprofit Day is celebrated annually on August 17th. It honors the positive impact of charitable organizations, volunteers, and community leaders who work to solve social challenges. The date marks the signing of the Tariff Act of 1894, which first granted federal income tax exemptions to charitable institutions.
This week's speaker is Amy Boese, director of Library Services for Placer County. Placer County Library provides free and open access to services, programs, and materials that enrich, inform, empower, and entertain. We are committed to being a valuable source of information and lifelong learning to the residents of our communities.
Stand Up Placer
Last week's speaker was Gary McDonald, Executive Director at Stand Up Placer. He shared about their mission to save lives by empowering survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, and to educate communities to stand up against these issues. They achieve this by providing comprehensive services, such as emergency shelter, housing, counseling, legal support, and community awareness programs, to survivors and their families in Placer County. Gary shared some staggering stats on domestic violence and sex trafficking in the Placer area. There are many ways to get involved and support the cause.
The meeting was camera shy; we forgot to take pictures.
