World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” – officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day: A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Our Aerospace Museum Tour event is this Wednesday, November 12th, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. If you can't be there for the full day, please join us for our lunch meeting at the event with the students.
The project involves RUSD middle school students who are part of the school's STEAM program. Students participate in a docent-led tour of the California Aerospace Museum. The tour is designed to engage students in the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) by exploring the history, technology, and science of aerospace. Rotarians join in the docent-led tours, and we join the students for lunch.

A Veteran's Journey to Advocacy
Last week's speaker was Nick Busse, a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Army who completed two tours of duty in Iraq. After his military service, he transitioned to the corporate sector, where he currently serves as the Head of Military Relations and Talent Programs at Leaf Home. Beyond his corporate career, Busse dedicates himself to veteran advocacy and community service. He came and rocked the mic, sharing about his service to the community.
What have we been up to
Last Saturday, November 8th, some of our members, board, and spouses, pictured below, attended the District 5180 Rotary Foundation Dinner. It's that great time of year when we get to celebrate the achievements of our clubs for all their fundraising efforts, which led to incredible service projects over the past year.

Every diaper, can of formula, box of wipes, and pair of socks helps a local family in need. Refer to the event calendar for more information on how you can donate and contribute.
Before you know it, we'll be doing our annual Christmas Gift Baskets. We assemble and distribute bags filled with toys, clothing, essentials, and even gift cards to approximately 15–20 families in need. More information coming soon.
