Home Page Stories
The 2017-2018 Rotary year is in full swing. It was great seeing everyone at the club meeting at the Elk’s Lodge. As mentioned at the meeting, I am very excited to be leading this club. Steven Lease did a phenomenal job leading us into the new Passport format, laying the groundwork, and creating our culture “Rotary on Your Schedule”. You will continue to hear that phrase and we will continue this culture of flexibility and demonstrating service above self. What I hope to achieve this year is a stronger infrastructure to deliver more club organization, create processes and procedures for better/easier member engagement, and set the course for our club’s continuing legacy in the future. There are exciting things happening and it will be a pleasure getting to share in the accomplishments together with you.
This year Sierra Passport will be looking for ways to utilize President Garrett's Performance Planner to plan activities focused around the Youth Services Avenue of Service.  Some of the goals of this committee will be:

-Select and support one local middle or high school

-Host an Interact at least quarterly; invite RYE student to one meeting

-Encourage members to become a RYLA counselor or REGL mentor

-Members to attend Sept 9, 2017 Avenue of Service seminar

-Support a boy scout/girl scout troop throughout the year

We will  have the pleasure of hearing a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) participant Parker Franscella, from Colfax High, talk about her experience at RYLA Camp, at our July meeting.

If you would like to help on the Youth Services committee, please contact Lindy Beatie at lindybeatie@gmail.com ...

Don't forget to sign up for the Avenue of Service Seminar, Bishop Mangue High School, Reno, September 9, 2017
This a great opportunity to investigate the many programs Rotary has to offer at this Avenue of Service seminar on September 9 in Reno.

2017 - 2018 Goals

One of our goals this year (and every year) should be 100% member participation in giving to The Rotary Foundation.  The Rotary Foundation is no fly-by-night operation that takes your money and squanders it.  91% of the funds are spent directly on programs.  This is the first year of The Rotary Foundation's second century.  The Foundation has received the highest recognition year after year from Charity Navigator.  The Association of Fundraising Professionals named it the Worlds Outstanding Foundation for 2016 and again for 2017.  CNBC named The Rotary Foundation one of the "Top 10 Charities Changing the World". Giving to The Rotary Foundation is an investment.  We invest because we know the money will be used wisely.  We invest because we see the dividends in the good works that accrue from our combined donations.
The Rotary Foundation has six areas of focus -
  • Promoting Peace
  • Providing Clean Water
  • Saving Mothers & Children
  • Supporting Education
  • Growing Local Economies
  • Fighting Diseases (including Polio).
Whatever your focus is ----Invest by Giving!
