“Rotary Connects the World” was this year’s theme from Mark Daniel Maloney, 2019-2020 Rotary International President. No one could have known just how appropriate that phrase would become, and what it would mean to each of us.
I want to send a big THANK YOU to the past presidents, presidents from other clubs, and especially to the Reno Central Rotarians. You provided me with encouragement, information, and a few really good stories. When COVID-19 became a growing concern, we realized that things were not going to be the same for quite a while. Your support and help to adjust, and learn new things, was crucial to our club’s ability to continue meeting, and to stay connected as much as possible. These past few months have allowed me to more fully appreciate the value of each of you, my fellow members, and your families as we protect and provide for each other. The in-person fellowship, dessert consumption, and hugs may be on-hold..., yet many of you are reaching out to check on the others, deliver food and supplies, continue our club’s programs, and are getting really creative!
Our meetings are on-line. Our fundraiser went virtual! The world continues to rotate. Some restrictions have been lifted. Some people are venturing out. Many remain cautious. With this backdrop, we are starting a new Rotary year, and with a new club president, and a vision for this coming year. Let's give him our support!!
As Rotarians, I hope we will keep in our hearts the reason we joined Rotary. Hold on to the motivation towards service, in its many forms, so that we can continue the good that we know we can do. Will you help to stay connected? Find new and different ways to get involved. I am sincerely grateful for all of you, and for the experience you shared with me this past year. 💖
