October 25 - Bob Mutchler, Polio Plus

Bob Mutchler, or Motorcycle Bob, as he is known in the Rotary world and to the media around the world has been riding his motorcycle with the sole goal of raising awareness of The Rotary Foundation and, more specifically, PolioPlus since 1998. He has ridden to every state capitol in the United States, every Canadian Provincial capitol, every Australian state capitol and many other riding events on his motorcycle in order to bring about public awareness of PolioPlus. He has been featured on network television, talk radio, newspapers and magazines as he expresses the message of PolioPlus and The Rotary Foundation. Bob continues to be a featured media attraction two or more times every month somewhere around the world. This allows local Rotary clubs a wonderful opportunity to request donations from non-Rotarians who have seen, read or heard about Rotary through the media generated by Bob's motorcycle rides.

Bob has been a featured speaker in Africa, Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States at the club level as well as Interact and Rotaract clubs around the world. He has been a keynote speaker at District Conferences and PETS in Africa, Canada and the United States. He has received numerous awards and Legislative Proclamations, including the Rotary Citation for Meritorious Service, the Regional PolioPlus Service Award and the International Award for PolioPlus.

Bob currently serves as the Rotary Club of Folsom's Foundation Chair as well as serving as a Folsom City Commissioner.

Bob has also been speaking to RYLA campers since 2000 organizing a program called "Pennies for Polio" which is a program that allows high school students to raise money for PolioPlus. Bob's motorcycle is part of his presentation to the RYLA campers and it has been said that his talk is one of the most inspirational programs at the RYLA camp.

Bob is married to Patti and has four children. He has been a Rotarian since 1970, has perfect attendance, is a member of the Rotary Club of Folsom and is a past president of the Rotary club of North Sacramento. He is a Major Donor, Foundation Bequest Society member and Benefactor of The Rotary Foundation. In his spare time, he is a successful fourth generation piano tuner/technician who plays keyboards and sings in a rock and roll band.
