Veterans Day Program
Come hear about—and tour—the new Northern Nevada State Veterans Home. Recently opened, this 96-bed skilled nursing facility was created for veterans and their spouses who need 24-hour skilled nursing services. Its cutting-edge technologies and breathtaking architectural design make it a model for nursing care throughout the Nation. Kat Miller, Director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, will explain the services provided by the home, eligibility for residency, and opportunities for community involvement.
Kat is a member of Reno Central Rotary and has served as the State of Nevada Director of
Veterans services since 2013. As Director, she is the primary public advocate for veteran’s
affairs in Nevada. She is responsible for the oversight of the state’s Veterans Memorial
Cemeteries, Veterans Homes (Skilled Nursing Facilities), Veterans Service Officer and
Outreach Programs, and other supportive services for Veterans, Active Duty, Guard, Reserve,
and their families. Kat served in the U.S. Army for 34 years, with assignments in the United
States, South America, Europe, and Southwest Asia, commanding at company, battalion and
brigade level. Her three Pentagon tours included service as a strategic planner, recommending
combat equipment changes, and policy for the detention of unlawful enemy combatants to
Congressional leaders.
