Today we will be meeting in Naples 6

On December 13, 2016, our speaker will be Chesa Keane talking with us about the Rotary Youth Exchange.

RYE in Area 8 is one of many youth programs that Rotary clubs give to the Truckee Meadows community. While challenging at times, the value of this program is unsurpassed in its value to the young people who are to become our future. How, as a Rotarian, can you become involved? If you think it is only as a host family or if you think there is a single demographic only that could host a student, you are missing the other aspects that make this program better than any other exchange program available to students between the ages of 15 and 18. It is my goal to educate and inspire every Rotarian to be a part of Rotary Youth Exchange.

Chesa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude. She has been self-employed from age 22 in various businesses with a very few brief stints at working for others.

In Reno since 1983, her company, TAO Consultants, deals with almost every aspect of Internet and computer consulting, applications development and training and focuses on promoting businesses online presence.

Chesa’s first contact with Rotary was in 1996 when she was a Group Study Exchange (GSE) team member going to India. That began her Rotary-Evangelist attitude and at that time she determined to join Rotary and lead a team to another country. In 2013, she again was selected for a GSE exchange, this time as team leader, again going to India.

As secretary for her Reno Centennial Sunset Rotary Club for several years, her greatest focus is Youth Services, primarily Rotary Youth Exchange. As chair of Truckee Meadows Rotary Youth Exchange (TMRYE), she has been instrumental in administering the Area 8 RYE inbound and outbound students and counselors, creating structure and policy for this great program. She is now Inbound Coordinator and Host Family Coordinator on the District 5190 RYE Committee and the country contact for three countries.

Chesa is occasionally a computer correspondent for KRNV News Channel 4. And for seven years, also had a weekly computer correspondent spot in the Channel 8 Morning News. She is best recognized as the Computer Goddess®.
