August 12: Surviving Afghanistan - Aimal Halim

Aimal will be speaking with us of his involvement with the U.S. Military, the Afghan- U.S. relations, and the future of Afghanistan.

Aimal Halim was born and raised in Afghanistan.  Aimal graduated from the University of Nevada with a degree in political science. Growing up in Afghanistan, Aimal endured the brutal civil war that engulfed the country after the exit of the Soviet Union. He also experienced first hand the subsequent rule of the Taliban Regime. Aimal learned to speak English and was fortunate to find a job as a translator and cultural advisor for the U.S. Armed Forces. After numerous missions over a three years peirod, Aimal received a student visa from the United States in 2010. He has been living and studying  in Reno ever since. Aimal speaks frequently about his life experiences, his work with American Military, and the future of Afghanistan. Aimal has applied for the 2015 Rotary Peace Fellowship and is awaiting for the result to be announced this November.
