Membership Club Assemble - Jim Boland & Membership Committee
Monday September 17th – ADG Gail Ellingwood presented $2000 from Rotary International for our trail sign project. See the attached photo for an example of the signs we will be posting this spring. We will also be constructing 3 trail head sign boards.
We recognized our newest members; Walt Steuben and Doug Ely along with their sponsors Ken George and Dwight Pierson. Dona Wood and Karen Pierson have been submitted to the membership for consideration as our newest members. Keep up the good work!!
We had a very informative presentation by our very own Doug Lafferty about the plans for the hospital expansion. This is a very doable project with the low interest loan from USDA. Even the hospitals most vocal opponents are in favor of the project. Good job Doug.
Fines included:
- Birthdays celebrated: Toni and Doug P.
- Missing bell fines were extracted from Suzan and Dwight. Steve was in possession of the gavel. Do you think he may be guilt? I’ll need to consult with the DA and Judge.
- Members were fined $5 if they did not attend the Starry Mountain Night Hospital Dinner. We made quite a haul – easy money.

Our History
Plumas District Hospital is located in Quincy, California, which is the County seat and the largest community in Plumas County. Quincy is nestled against the Western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and tucked in at the edge of the lush American Valley. Chico, California is 80 miles West of Quincy and Reno, Nevada is 80 miles East of Quincy.
The Plumas Hospital District was formed in 1955. In 1956 a bond issue was passed to obtain financing for a new hospital. Funds were also obtained from the Federal Government Hill-Burton Program. The acceptance of Hill-Burton money requires health care institutions to furnish needed services to persons unable to pay for the services. Although this obligation ended in May, 1979, patients who are not able to pay are never turned away. In 1959 a new 25 bed hospital was built on Bucks Lake Road, a half mile from the Courthouse Square in downtown Quincy.
January 2, 1998, Plumas District Hospital was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals for 1997 by HCIA, Inc. and William M. Mercer Incorporated. The annual study, 100 Top Hospitals—Benchmarks for Success, identifies U.S. hospitals delivering the most cost-efficient and highest quality medical care. Six of the region’s top-performing hospitals are in California.

Plumas District Hospital (PDH) has established a telemedicine affiliation with U.C. Irvine Medical Center. The new link will help reduce the need for Plumas County patients to travel out-of-town to obtain neurology and pediatric psychiatry services.
The PDH Telemedicine program uses two-way video and secure high-speed internet connections to allow patients to consult with specialists at large medical centers. Plumas District Hospital has maintained a telemedicine affiliation with U.C. Davis Medical Center since the 1990s.
Your Gift Could Save a Life
In past years, the Foundation has used the funds from your gifts to purchase a new photo-therapy unit, used to treat newborn jaundice, for the hospital’s obstetric department and a number of personal digital assistants (PDAs) for the nursing staff. The PDAs provide access to vast amounts of medical information on the spot. Thanks to your support, nurses now, literally, have an entire library of specialized information in their pocket.
This year we hope to expand the Safe ‘N Snug Baby Bags program. A program that will provide all new mothers with a kit composed of educational materials about safe infant sleeping practices, safety in the home, breastfeeding and other important habit. Kits also include baby care items, such as a digital thermometer, diapers, a handheld breast pump and other useful items for the new baby.
