Moline Rotary was pleased to provide financial assistance to help Loves Park, Illinois Rotary and the Rotary Club of New Kingston, Jamaica establish a Neonatal Resuscitation Program in Jamaica.

The project, planned in 2005 by the Jamaican Ministry of Health and the charity Friends of Jamaica USA, aims to help reduce infant mortality in Jamaica.  Prior to the start of this project, this training course was not available in Jamaica.

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program was initiated in the United States in the early 1980s by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association.

This project provided equipment and professional training to help improve resuscitation of babies who are not breathing at birth.  Training manuals, mannequins and certified instructors were sent to Jamaica to teach neonatal resuscitation skills to doctors, nurses and nurse-midwives.  Each region of Jamaica received 30 manuals, 2 infant mannequins and additional resuscitation equipment.
