Student Rotarian Report Exchange Student Joao Miguel reported that he will turn 17 years old on March 5th. The club celebrated Joao's birthday by singing Happy Birthday, and enjoying a birthday cake in his honor. It was Joao's birthday on March 5th. We celebrated a day early with a cake! Joao received not only his Varsity Letter, but also the Spirit Award at the annual MHS Swim Team Banquet. Joao loved the Quad Cities Regional Car Show, and he made a new friend... Joao also reported on the completion of his MHS swimming team experience. Having never swan competitively before Joao did well during his season. At a recent MHS Swimming Team Banquet Joao was awarded a "Major Letter" by coaches, and he was selected to receive the "2024 Team Spirit Award". Joao also reported on his attendance at the Quad City Regional Auto Show at the Bend XPO, where he met Miss Illinois!
Vice President Report Sam Moyer reported on his attendance at PETS (Rotary President Elect Training) where he learned about Rotary International's seven areas of focus: Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Basic Education & Literacy, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Community Economic Development, Maternal & Child Health, and Supporting the Environment. The 2024-25 Rotary International President will be Stephanie Urchick and her theme next year will be "The Magic of Rotary". Sam also learned that Moline Rotary Club is considered a prominent sponsor of youth programs such as Youth Exchange and RYLA. Sam announced that the Rotary District 6420 Annual Conference will be held at Stoney Creek Inn, Moline, on Friday April 26th - Saturday April 27th. With the district conference being held in Moline, a rarity, all Rotarians are encouraged to plan to attend this important local Rotary event.
Youth Programs Report  Gary Francque reported that the annual RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) conference will be held the first weekend of May at Northern Illinois University's Taft Field Campus at Lowden State Park, Oregon, IL. Moline High School Interact Club members, and other students, will be invited to attend this great weekend youth leadership development camp. Several Rotarian volunteers are required to staff RYLA. Rotarians are invited to volunteer for from a couple of hours to the entire weekend or even drive students to the event. |
