Monday's Meeting

Our speaker on Monday is Rowan Smith. Ms. Smith will be speaking on her involvement with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).

Last Meeting's Speaker

Our last speaker was Bill Horrell, Community Impact Coordinator with Alternatives.

One of Alternatives' missions is a Dementia Friendly Illinois Quad Cities. Alternatives is developing a plan to make the Quad Cities a Dementia Friendly Community, with personal and professional connections and encounters with caregivers and people living with dementia or a dementia-like illness. Alternative's goal is to use education and community involvement to help raise awareness of the importance of being an inclusive community for people living with dementia.

Dementia Friendly is a global movement developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom and now underway in the United States.

The goal is to help everyone in a community understand five key messages about dementia, how it affects people, and how we each can make a difference in the lives of people living with the disease.

People with dementia need to be understood and supported in their communities. You can help by becoming a Dementia Friend.

  • Dementia is not a normal part of aging

  • Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain

  • Dementia is not just about having memory problems

  • It is possible to have a good quality of life with dementia

  • There is more to the person than the dementia
